On my dad's coffee table right now are the remains of the Christmas Eve tablescape. On a plater in the middle of the table sit four scented candles nestled among holly, cranberry and pine cone decorations. It's truly lovely and festive.
Nestled around that are a family Christmas newsletter, the current issue of Elle with Britney Spears on the cover, three gift bows, a computer charger, the remains of Chinese food leftovers, a mug with about a quarter inch of cold coffee, an empty glass dish that used to have mixed nuts in it, some gift packaging, and a box of Trader Joe's dark chocolate sea salt caramels. Very anti-Martha.
Not really a tablescape anymore, but it does tell you a lot about our family's activities since Christmas.
On a related note, if the Trader Joe's near you has any of the dark chocolate sea salt caramels left, go buy out their stock! And possibly sell them on eBay. They are so, so good. I thought about maybe doing a review, but my thoughts only came out in a loop of "caramel...nom...salty...chocolate...so good...nom...want...nom..." which, while certainly descriptive, is not quite a sentence.
