It has been raining babies in my life lately. About six months ago (holy cow, it's been six months!) my friend Jessica had a beautiful baby boy, Everett. Last Saturday, my friend Andrea had the amazing Enzo, who is so cute you could just take him home in your big purse. And today I found out that my friend (and former prom date) Justin is going to be a dad...like, any hour now.
Justin's best friend from college got pregnant and the father is not involved. Justin has always wanted a kid and has a super secure job with amazing benefits, so he is going to adopt the baby and they'll raise it together. I think this is just amazing, and touching, and I'm sort of blown away by the "it takes a village" attitude. Justin's gay, and the mom is straight, so at some point step-parents will likely be involved. But that's really no big deal (I speak from experience) and probably going to be the weirdest part of the whole thing for the kid, because Justin will be an excellent dad. This baby will have a wonderful, funny, cultured, tri-lingual father who wanted more than anything to become part of his life. I just love that. Plus, Justin is an such an upstanding dude. Didn't even try to sleep with me on prom night or anything.
I'm just feeling all gushy and getting excited when I see the labor updates. Congrats, Justin!
