I've been in my new place for one month now, and I am finally, 100 percent settled in. You know how it goes--you have to get your closets set up in a way that is actually useful, you realize a bunch of stuff can just go in your storage space, etc. It's nice to have the last boxes cleared out of my living room and just enjoy the place.
However, now that I'm settled in, my mind has wandered to the next step, which is actually decorating my three rooms. I've done a little bit in the living room by picking out some lamps and pillows, but other than that, this place is very beige. Tan carpet and off-white walls. To top if off, my couch has a cream-colored slipcover and I have white bedding. So, not a lot of color happening here, and I need ideas to tone down the institutional vibe of the place.
Some background information: My property management company does do custom colors on the walls, but only if you choose one of the 10 colors they offer. And somehow, none of those 10 colors looked good to me--it was either dark brown, bright green, a weird shade of blue, etc. And my living/dining areas are all in one open room, so it's not like I can just have a red dining room or something. So the walls pretty much have to stay as-is, unless you all want to come over and do the painting--and priming over it when I move out--for me. So whatever color I add has to be in the form of furniture, wall decor, rugs, or other accent pieces.
Anyway, I like the idea of incorporating some bright pops of color, and I figure that somewhere out there on the Internet are other people who have lived in similar beige-y apartments and might have ideas. Plz to has input!
