Resolutions

I made a bunch of resolutions at the start of this year, and then added one a couple months in. In a Vinyasa yoga class in February, an instructor helped show me how to approach a full wheel pose in two steps. It seemed impossible, and my teeny, dinosaur-like arms were shaking the whole time. I decided then and there that I'd work up the strength and nerve to do it. And I figured it could very well take me until 2012 to figure it out.

A couple weeks ago, before my trip to Mexico (that is another post), I kind of barely got myself sort of propped up maybe a little bit. By which I mean, it went well. Tonight at yoga I did a full wheel (aka, "bridge," which we all did when we were kids) for the first time in about two decades. I feel so proud! It's decidedly harder to do when you weigh 100 pounds more than you did then, and have developed rational thought (aka, "fear of falling"). One thing I love about yoga is that for as "age of Aquarius" of a reputation it has, it's actually very systematic. It breaks down your self-ascribed notions of what your body is and is not capable of, and shows you, move by move, what you can learn to do and how you can progress.

Still on my list for 2011:
  • Take an auto repair class (by the way, any recommendations on where to do this in the Twin Cities?)
  • Camp in a national park
  • Reach the top of the rock wall at my gym
  • Run a 5k (this is really a very specific July resolution)
How are your resolutions coming? Any late additions?

  2. Hooray! That's awesome- I still haven't managed to do full wheel! You should be proud. By the way, you should come to Gorilla Yogis in a couple weeks - it's a fun time. And it's at the Science Museum this time for Earth Day, so you can't go wrong: http://www.gorillayogis.com/gorilla-gatherings.html

  3. Thank you! I feel all bendy and advanced. I think I'll be busy with Easter-related travel on Earth Day, but that sounds like an awesome event!
